As Australia’s highest awarded roaster, the place packs out with passionate coffee connoisseurs. Sit outside on the sociable sidewalk patio or pull up a pew in the chic wood-panelled interior. If coffee is your main game, this is hands-down one of the best cafés in Fortitude Valley.

King Arthur Café

Just off James Street, this hip whitewashed café impresses with its trademark curved ceiling. While most punters come to get a morning buzz on, the joint offers more than freshly ground beans.

King Arthur’s creative café-style menu is a hit with the weekend brunch crowd and mid-week office workers alike. With an impressive selection of eggs, avo, and bacon combinations, it’s a pleasant place to dine. 

Andonis Cafe and Bar

After a smashing success in its South Brisbane locale, Andonis has brought its delicious dishes and aromatic brews to Fortitude Valley. The offshoot offers the same mouth-watering dessert menu, plus savoury favourites like corn fritters and veggie eggs benny.

The portions are enormous, so you needn’t fret about ordering any sides. Next-level plate presentation and a leafy fern-strewn backdrop make it a hit among the Instagram set.

Agnes Bakery

More bakery than café, perhaps. But this sensational James Street venue is too good not to mention—and it does decent coffee, too. Set in a charming heritage-listed cottage, the boutique bakery handcrafts the Valley’s most deliciously decadent desserts.

From custard-pumped tarts to fig-filled cheesecakes and their epic almond kouign amann, Agnes is a paradise for sweet tooths. Just be prepared to queue.

The Woolshed

A hop and a skip away in Teneriffe, the Woolshed is a spacious industrial-styled bike café with top-notch coffee and food. The witty owner Luke does a stellar job at making customers feel welcome, regardless of whether they rock up on two wheels.  

Adventurous eaters should give the bacon bun and kimchee avocado a shot—it always hits the spot. Rather stick to what you know? Woolshed’s bacon and egg roll reigns supreme.

Nodo

Nodo has earned a legendary reputation for baking the best doughnuts in town. Following a (totally relatable) #eatdonutsforbreakfast philosophy, these gluten-free, circle-shaped goodies come in a gamut of tempting flavours.

While the baked doughnuts take centre stage, Nodo also does an array of delicious café-style dishes, including a slew of superb vegan options.
