Need travel inspo on the top things to do on Tamborine Mountain?
We’ve put together the perfect post for you. From vineyard stints to rainforest hikes and adrenaline-pumping ziplines, these seven suggestions make for an epic day out.
Visit a Winery
Although Queensland isn’t the epicentre of Australia’s world-leading wine industry, the Sunshine State does produce a few mighty fine drops. Much of the grape-growing goodness takes place on Tamborine Mountain, a sub-tropical zone famed for its light-medium reds and full-bodied Verdelho.
The star of the show is Witches Falls Winery, a long-standing vineyard pumping out top-notch plonk. Around the corner, Mason Wines does equally good vino with varieties spanning Sauvignon Blanc to Shiraz.
Tamborine Ziplining
Thrill-seeking adventurers can careen through the canopy at the Thunderbird Park TreeTop Challenge. Touted as Australia’s biggest adventure park, this sprawling complex has a network of vertigo-inducing climbs and bridge walks.
The most exhilarating activity, of course, is the Canyon Flyer ziplining experience. Seven lines soar 1.5km across the park, crossing Cedar Creek Gorge up to 60m above the surface. Top speeds of 70kmph are guaranteed to get the heart pumping.
Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk
For a less terrifying bird’s eye view, pop into Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk instead. A family-friendly 1.5km walk encompasses forest floor trails, high-tech steel walkways, and a 40-metre high cantilever bridge.
Enjoy sweeping views of the lush landscape while keeping both feet planted on the ground. An Eco Gallery showcases exotic native species, and there’s a café for hot drinks and nibbles.
Hike To A Waterfall
Tamborine Mountain is one of the top spots in Australia to go chasing waterfalls. A roaring selection of gushing cascades lies scattered around the mountain, each accessible by a scenic rainforest trail.
Energetic adventurers can tackle the sweaty 3.5km return hike to Cedar Creek Falls, where an ice-cold plunge pool awaits. Access to the more accessible Curtis Falls is via an easy 1.5km stroll, but swimming is prohibited to protect the resident glow worms. Witches Falls is another super scenic option—after all, it’s SE-QLD’s first National Park.
Fortitude Brewing
Beer buffs can quaff frothy artisanal suds at Fortitude Brewing. As the region’s premiere microbrewery, the venue lures scores of day-trippers for its superb craft beer and tranquil natural setting.
The on-site kitchen does a mean calamari and prawn pizza, and there’s live music on most weekend afternoons.
Tamborine Mountain Distillery
Beer and wine aren’t the only boozy delights to be found.
Tamborine Mountain Distillery crafts top-shelf spirits using native flora and other all-natural ingredients. Opt for a tasting session to sample a buffet of booze-infused flavours, from grappa to gin and liqueur to schnapps. The family-run distiller has won over 300 awards for its efforts—check out the trophy collection in the Cellar Door.
Set in a lush Tamborine estate, Cauldron Distillery specialises in sublime small-batch gin. The two-and-a-half-hour “Make your own gin” masterclass is a hit among connoisseurs craving to create the good stuff at home.
