The Best Spots on the Gold Coast for a Sunset Cocktail

The Gold Coast is known for many things and its lively nightlife scene is one of them. Start your night in the best way possible with a sunset cocktail at one of these amazing Gold Coast bars.

Rick Shores

Is it even possible to visit the Gold Coast without popping into Rick Shores? The stellar seaside restaurant offers panoramic views over Burleigh Beach, but its food and drinks are just as stunning. We visit Rick Shores for a five-course banquet lunch on our Gold Coast food and drink tour. But head here for sunset and your reward is seeing the horizon painted in different shades while sipping one of their signature cocktails. Trust us, the cocktail menu is just as innovative as the food.

The Tropic

Located at Burleigh Pavillion, the Gold Coast’s first beach club, The Tropic is a dream. Instagrammers will go gaga for the sweeping seaside and Surfers Paradise views paired with pastel and wooden furnishings. Pull up a seat on the balcony and indulge in a cocktail or two at sunset. Choose from fun creations like The Ginfluencer and the aptly-named Tropic Sunset. Enjoy your cocktail with a few of their small plate selections, such as beef tartare and fig and Persian feta.

Frida Sol

A modern Mexican bar and taqueria, Frida Sol pays homage to the one and only Frida Kahlo. It transports you to Tulum as soon as you step in the door with traditional Mexican decor, tiki-style umbrellas and ocean vistas. Its daily Sunset Specials include $10 frozen margaritas and $10 guacamole. So sit outdoors, relax and choose from a long list of margaritas, sangria and signature cocktails.

Justin Lane

Since opening in 2011, Justin Lane has grown from a pizzeria to a multi-level restaurant, bar and event space. While the pasta bar is a great spot for dinner, you’ll want to head upstairs to the rooftop for pizza, live DJ sets and sunset cocktails. Enjoy views of world-famous Burleigh Point as you sip on a Watermelon Cooler (a Gold Coast-inspired mojito). If you like to live life on the edge, opt for the Passionfruit and Chilly Tommy’s Margarita instead. The Gold Coast’s original rooftop bar, don’t miss a drink at this Burleigh icon.

Hyde Paradiso

Overlooking Surfers Paradise Beach, enjoy handcrafted cocktails and Mediterranean tapas at Hyde Paradiso. The cocktail list includes signature concoctions, their own take on the classics and cocktail jugs. The Paradiso Punch is a must when you visit for sunset drinks with the girls. But maybe the Bubblegum Martini or Passionfruit Pavlova is calling your name?

Moxy’s Rooftop Bar

Located in the heart of Coolangatta, Moxy’s Rooftop Bar has become one of the most popular Gold Coast bars. With a retractable roof and ocean views, you can, fortunately, enjoy the rooftop bar year-round. Choose from a sizeable list of signature and classic cocktails. There’s El Chapo, their take on a classic espresso martini with cacao-infused tequila, Kahlua and fresh pineapple juice. Or perhaps you want to try their take on a G&T, with rhubarb and ginger gin. With live DJs every Friday to Sunday night, don’t miss the party and start your night with sunset cocktails at Moxy’s.
