Interested in Aboriginal culture? Got a penchant for the arts? Consider combining both passions with our brand-new offering: the Dreamtime Art Trail.

From ancient ceremonies to story-telling sessions, this insightful indigenous experience showcases the proud traditions of the Bundjalung people. The best bit? To cap off the adventure, an esteemed indigenous artist will teach you how to produce authentic aboriginal paintings.

The Dreamtime Art Trail itinerary

Created to celebrate rich First Nations traditions, the Dreamtime Art Trail is an enticing exploration of indigenous culture and art.

Our tour starts with a transfer to Fingal Head, a gorgeous coastal stretch hidden between Kingsscliff and Tweed Heads. Here, you’ll meet Jason King, a celebrated Bundjalung artist and your very own private guide.

After performing a heart-warming Welcome to Country ceremony, Jason will lead you on a guided Dreamtime walking tour of Fingal Head. Listen to age-old tales of his intriguing traditions while meandering stunning coastal trails.

Once you’ve hiked up an appetite, it’s time to tuck into lunch. Jason will whisk you to Paper Daisy, a prestigious destination restaurant within the glamorous Halcyon House. One of the best places to stay on Cabarita Beach, this glitzy vintage boutique oozes mid-century charm.

You’re on a Kiff & Culture tour. You won’t have to settle for second-rate food. Executive Chef Jason Barratt runs the Paper Daisy kitchen, whipping up exotic culinary delights from fresh Northern Rivers ingredients.

With a satiated belly, you’ll cruise verdant Tweed Valley pastures towards the bohemian village of Murwillumbah. A stop at the Margaret Olley Art Gallery provides insight into Australia’s greatest still-life painter. Take time to browse her immaculately re-created home studio, which houses a mind-boggling collection of 20,000+ works.

At the end of the tour, you’ll get the chance to unleash your inner creativity under Jason’s expert guidance. The artist will teach you how to create captivating patterns on canvas, as well as paint mixing and brushstroke techniques. Led by his expertise, you’ll obtain a profound understanding of aboriginal artwork and produce your own masterpiece to take home.

Jason King

Born in Murwillumbah and raised in Tumbulgum, Jason has been a Bundjalung Country local his entire life. Original storytellers such as ancient desert painters, rock art creators, and traditional musicians and dancers inspired him to become an artist.

Studying his traditional culture and sharing his life experience has allowed Jason to develop a deeper connection with Gumbaynggirr, his ancestral land. By integrating story-telling into his artwork, Jason hopes his art will better resonate with a broader audience. Many of his works use rich colours unearthed from natural ochres in Bundjalung land.
