Here’s Why You Should Consider Holding Your Corporate Christmas Party in January

The Christmas party is a landmark event on every company calendar, a time for the team to unwind and celebrate the year’s achievements.

But does it have to take place in December?

If you’re happy to stray from tradition and think outside the box, there are several compelling reasons to host your shindig in January instead.

Motivate Staff for the Year to Come

Once the tinsel has been taken down and the last loose pine needles vacuumed away, your staff will find themselves in a New Year’s rut. Coming back to the office in January entails a tangible motivational slump.

Rather than hosting a December event to reflect on the year gone by, a January knees-up will get employees excited about the year to come. Throw in a few fun, motivational speeches between drinks, and your staff will feel pumped about the work year ahead.

More Employees Can Come

December is a difficult time to organise a party. Employees often have multiple clashing commitments, making it hard to get people to attend.

But by holding your annual corporate celebration in the less hectic month of January, there’s a good chance everyone will show up. Just make sure to set the date in the latter half of the month once your employees are back from the summer break.

Better Venue Availability

Not only is it tricky to get staff to attend in December, but the best venues also book out months in advance. Leave your December Christmas party planning until the last minute, and you’ll suffer through a sub-par event in a lacklustre locale.

However, if you switch to a January jamboree, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The hottest venues in town will be begging for your booking, and some may even throw a decent discount your way.

Pick Any Theme You Like

A January corporate party doesn’t have to follow the Christmas theme—in fact, it shouldn’t.

Santa suits, bulbous baubles, and carol sing-alongs will feel a tad awkward in the New Year, so consider picking an entirely new theme altogether. As the weather’s almost certainly going to be warm, something like a garden cocktail party or beachfront barbeque would suffice.

To drive home the difference, don’t call it a “Christmas party” at all. Instead, opt for an “Office New Year Party” or something along those lines.
